Visiting
Piñon Ecovillage

Options for visiting are a 2-hour tour or a 1-week visit. Please contact us to discuss alternative arrangements.

2-Hour Tour

We offer a 2 hour tour of Piñon Ecovillage by appointment. This guided tour includes a survey of the grounds and the main house (Aspenwood House), a brief overview of the history of the property, a review of Piñon Ecovillage's plans for the property, and ample time for Q&A.

Tours are open to anyone. Email us at pinon@ic.org or call Sean at (505)660-8835 to schedule a tour.

1-Week Visit

The 1-week visit lets prospective members get to know more about Piñon Ecovillage: its residents, culture, vision, and projects. Visitors are fully integrated into community life for the length of their stay, helping out with community projects, cooking and housekeeping, and attending community meetings. Visitors who are likely to have the best experience are those who are flexible, hard-working, motivated self-starters with a strong desire to learn and help out. Visitors are asked to contribute $35 and 30 hours during their 1-week visit.

Anyone considering Full membership or Internship at Piñon Ecovillage should come for a 1-week visit. Extensions and additional visits may also be available. [Those considering Associate membership are welcome to come visit for up to 1 week, but are not required to.]

Please email us at pinon@ic.org or call Sean at (505)660-8835 if interested in visiting.

We've found that some of the best connections with visitors come while we're working together on projects. Project work usually involves a mixture of observation and hands-on work. We have a variety of projects either in progress right now or planned for the near future:
  • organic gardening
  • landscaping
  • building with cob & adobe
  • earthen plastering (interior and exterior)
  • greywater recycling systems
  • ceramic tiling
  • carpentry
What projects visitors work on depends on the time of year and what projects we are engaged in during your stay.

How to Get Here

Planes

If you are flying to New Mexico, it is significantly less expensive to fly into the Albuquerque airport than to fly into Santa Fe. From the Albuquerque airport, the best way to get to Piñon Ecovillage is to take the Twin Hearts shuttle bus (800-654-9456), which takes you directly to Pojoaque (1 mile from Piñon Ecovillage). It takes about 1.5 hours to get from Albuquerque to Pojoaque, and costs $25 one-way, or $45 round-trip. Once you are in Pojoaque, one of us will pick you up (and also drop you back off for your trip home).

If you fly into Santa Fe, take the Road Runner shuttle bus (505-424-3367), which will take you from the Santa Fe airport to Pojoaque. It takes about 45-60 minutes to get from the Santa Fe airport to Pojoaque, and costs $20 one-way.

Trains

The closest Amtrak stop to Santa Fe is in Lamy, NM, about 20 miles SE of Santa Fe. (The train station is in the middle of nowhere.) From the train station, you can get a shuttle bus into Santa Fe that takes about 30 minutes and costs $11 one-way. Ask the driver to drop you off at the Hotel Santa Fe, where one of us will pick you up.

Automobiles

If you are driving to Piñon Ecovillage, email us at pinon@ic.org for directions.

Greyhound Bus

There is a Greyhound bus station in Santa Fe, about 30 minutes from Piñon Ecovillage, and one in Española, which is 15 minutes from Piñon. If you are taking the bus, let us know when you'll be getting into the station, and one of us will pick you up (preferably in Españnola, since it's closer to Piñon).

Local Transportation

There is a public bus system in Santa Fe called Santa Fe Trails, but it only runs within the city limits. There is no public transportation in our neck of the woods, but there is a free shuttle bus from the Cities of Gold Casino in Pojoaque to Santa Fe. In Santa Fe, the shuttle bus drops off and picks up at the Eldorado Hotel near the Plaza (among other places), where one can get a Santa Fe Trails bus to many parts of Santa Fe.
