Full Membership Agreement
As a Full member of Piñon Ecovillage, I agree to:
Perform at least the minimum work requirement ("quota") as set by the membership, and to contribute my labor and resources to Piñon Ecovillage to the best of my ability.
Contribute all earned income to Piñon Ecovillage while I'm a member (earned income is income generated by work done by members in or outside the community.)
Refrain from using any "outside assets" (outside assets are individually-owned assets that are kept separate from Piñon Ecovillage's income-sharing system)while a member. Outside assets include but are not limited to: mutual funds, stocks, savings accounts, interest income on the like, income from rental property, proceeds from the sale of such assets, and gifts (exceeding $500 in value per year) received from non-members while a member.
Contribute to the community all interest income over 5% per year earned on outside assets.
Participate in the concensus decision-making process (or consciously waive my right to express my opinions) and abide by the decisions made. I understand that concensus decision-making relies on the integrity of its participants and their commitment to the ideals of trust, respect, self-empowerment, cooperation, equal access to power, and non-violence.
Accept the following as Piñon Ecovillage's mission: To create a society, the size of a small village, that is committed to social and environmental sustainability, activism and outreach.
Environmental Sustainability: In such a manner that
1) no resources in the defined area are consumed faster than their natural replenishment, and
2) the enclosed system can continue indefinitely
a) without degradation of its ecosystem or internal resource base,
b) without degradation of the standard of living of the people within it, and
c) without contributing to the non-sustainability of ecosystems outside.
Social Sustainability: practicing nonviolence, cooperation, interdependence, trust, mutual respect, diversity, self-care and caring about each other.
Adhere to Piñon Ecovillage's Ecological Covenants.
Weigh the implications of my actions, continually striving to minimize my negative impact on the earth and its inhabitants.
Participate in the creation of a physical and social structure and culture that will move us towards long-term social and environmental sustainability.
Resolve conflicts peacefully and be open to the use of mediation.
I understand that this Membership Agreements will be enforced through personal integrity and trust and I assume responsibility for my actions as part of the community.
By becoming a member of Piñon Ecovillage, I commit to living an environmentally and socially sustainable lifestyle. I accept that Piñon has the ability to revoke my membership and residence upon violation of this Membership Agreement.
I am committed to the vision of diverse membership at Piñon Ecovillage and will not discriminate against any person on the basis of race, ethnicity, creed, gender, sexual orientation, age, ability, educational level, political views, class or cultural background, and I will attempt to minimize barriers to members of minority groups wishing to be involved with Piñon Ecovillage.
I understand that part of the Piñon Ecovillage mission is to serve as an example of sustainable living through outreach and education, and I understand that Piñon Ecovillage will continually pursue this goal by being open, as resources allow, to new members, guests, visitors and interns, and by publicizing the actions of our community.
