Piñon Ecovillage
Ecological Covenants

The following are long-term goals of the community, many of which we have not yet begun to work towards, and others we have only just begun to start reaching. These guidelines are included here to give prospective members an idea of what the community hopes to eventually accomplish.

1. Members will minimize their use of personal motorized vehicles.

2. Vehicles and other machinery will be powered by alternative (non-fossil) fuels as much as possible.

3. All gardening, landscaping and agriculture conducted on Piñon Ecovillage property will conform to the standards as set by NMOGA for organic procedures and processing. In addition, no petrochemical biocides or chemical fertilizers may be used or stored on Piñon Ecovillage property for household or other purposes.

4. Preference will be given to power from renewable and sustainable sources. Efforts will be made to minimize the use of fossil fuels and electricity generated from fossil fuels and other environmentally non-sustainable sources.

5. Lumber harvested outside of the bioregion shall be used as little as possible, excepting reused and reclaimed lumber.

6. Waste disposal systems at Piñon Ecovillage shall reclaim organic and recyclable materials as much as possible.

7. Non-toxic, biodegradeable cleaners, soaps, shampoos, detergents, and the like shall be used as much as possible.

8. When purchasing products, preference will be given to items grown organically, grown and/or made locally, and made using practices that actively benefit or minimize harm to the environment, its inhabitants, and human social structure.
