Aspenwood
Community Businesses

Aspenwood supports itself with the following businesses:
  • The Rubber Tree - our main source of income, The Rubber Tree is a mail order and internet business that sells safer-sex products, and is a project of S.H.A.P.E. (Sexual Health and Population Education), a New Mexico non-profit organization started by members of Aspenwood

  • Buying Club - more of a service to our larger community than a money-maker, our natural foods cooperative/buying club is affiliated with TCW (Tucson Cooperative Warehouse)

  • Arts and Crafts - a community business in the developing stages. We plan to make and sell various hand-crafted items, such as ceramics, furniture, rugs, etc., using local, recycled, and salvaged materials.

We have lots of ideas for other businesses and products that our community could get into, and we also welcome new ideas. We hope to create enough sustainable businesses here so that no Full member has to work outside the community if they don't want to, and so that there is a variety of interesting, challenging, fun work for members to choose from. Here are some of the ideas we have for businesses:

  • on-site alternative-health clinic (acupuncture, massage, chiropractic, herbal medicine, etc.)
  • natural food store and cafe
  • beekeeping and bee products
  • herbal and flower products (made from home-grown herbs and flowers)
  • used book/clothing/furniture store
  • gallery for showing and selling community-made art
  • hosting workshops on community-related topics, holistic health, alternative building, etc.
